Summary notes of the HSS meeting on 20/01/2014
Present: RB, LD, SF, MF, MG, PH, ASL, RdM, MS, GS, RV, RW.
Report from meetings
- SLM and general information -> MG
Massimo started welcoming the new section members from former the LIS
section.
The HSS section meeting will be held every other Monday afternoon
from 2pm to 3:45pm in the room 18-3-008. It will be difficult to change, even
exceptionally, the date as there are several other meeting with potential
overlap with HSS (LBS, TLEP).
ABP information meetings are being organised.
There were requests in the past for increasing the sharing of information
about group activities. The format is not completely fixed, and feedback is
requested! Here are some details:
- These meetings are not seminars and
should aim at a free exchange of information.
- The reports could be either
oral or with a very limited number of slides (no more than 5).
- The
topics should cover the main group activities.
- In order to keep the
length of the meeting reasonable, 1-1.5 hours should be assumed.
- The
meeting will be held on monthly basis.
- In order to accommodate all
possible topics some of them will be considered at each meeting, while others
at every other meeting.
- Reports should not only be the "spokespersons"
of the activities, but also people working directly on the specific topic.
- Google summer of code 2014 -> RdM
Riccardo mentioned that Google is supporting also this summer a number of
students working on codes. PH-SFT got up to eight students in past years. The
procedure is not completely straightforward, by J. Apostolakis (PH-SFT)
volunteered to help us. Projects should be submitted and the students will
select the most interesting one. The key point is that the code has to be an
open source code to be eligible by Google. Some more information can be found
here or also here. All people
interested could contact Riccardo for further information.
