Report from meetings
- SLM and general information -> MG
The LMC is being reorganized and will have its first meeting this year on Wednesday. It is chaired by Paul Collier, with Mike Lamont and Brennan Goddard as deputies and Benoit as secretary. Meetings will be scheduled every two weeks on Wednesday afternoon alternating with the IEFC (injectors and experimental facilities)
committee chaired by Roberto Saban. The LMC focus will be more on management and decisions.
Technical details should be sorted out before in other places like LBOC.
We will have two LHC-related workshops this year. One Evian-like workshop in June before IPAC and another more Chamonix-like workshop in September (22-26).
The student committee took place and several of our requests got through. Please forward any summer student request to Massimo asap.
There are also plans for a Marie Curie project proposal, related to synchrotron radiation in SixTrack and MAD-X as relevant for example for ERL.
A simpler unified und hopefully more stable naming scheme for CERN reports will be introduced, less
dependent on management structure names. There will also be an attempt to make future and
earlier reports easier to find by keywords.
Discussions started on the details of the startup planning. A sector test will be organized this year.
- LBS -> HB
Helmut reported from the last LHC background study group meeting. Slides are on indico.
- Collimation status -> RB
Discussions took place last week with two visitors from GSI, and working group meetings will take place today and next week on LS1 activities.
Massimo asked about IR7 optics validation for collimation. This will be followed up by Daniele Mirarchi. Thys works on an optics rematch to compensate for low powered
quadrupoles such that they could be removed from the powering, or used independently for example for ripple studies.
- MAD-X status -> LD
A development release was just done.
Slight output changes are being followed up aiming a stable pro-release. New features requested by E. Keil related to PTC twiss and min/max orbit calculations are followed up by Piotr.
- SixTrack status -> RdM
There are issues with the 6D beam-beam lens, which may lead to unexpected results for non-round collisions and long range.
More work is also required for the wire compensator. Hence, the code that
is currently implemented in SixTrack is not debugged and should not be used.
- On-line model status -> GR
The work continues on documentation and revealed inconsistencies related to precision which are followed up.
The old MAD8 manual is now available in searchable electronic form.
Piotr will contribute part time.
AOB
It is planned for the next meetings to include regular reports from the injectors/LIU.
