Budget for HL-LHC Orbit Correctors -> MF (slides)
Miriam presents the latest results of the studies on the orbit
correctors in IR1/5 for HL-LHC.
A crucial point is the strength of the
correctors in the D2. The proposed scheme envisages the closure of the bumps at
D2 in order to have zero orbit in the region of the crab cavities. This implies
a large strength for these correctors, which then generates non-negligible
technological challenges.
Recently, the crab cavity experts assessed that it
would be possible to traverse them with a non-zero transverse offset. This
implies that the closure of the bumps in D2 can be relaxed, as long as the orbit
in the crab cavities remains within the agreed budget.
This mitigates
considerably the strength issue.
A complete set of strength specifications is
proposed based on detailed numerical simulations in which the impact of
imperfections (magnet misalignment, transfer function errors) are taken into
account.
