Brainstorming discussion on implementation of non-linear crab cavity in SixTrack -> JB  (slides)
Javier Barranco reported about ideas on the implementation of non-linear crab cavities in SixTrack.
A first implementation should be ready this month to allow to start with long term tracking simulations which are needed to study the beam dynamics with a crab cavity for the high luminosity LHC upgrade.
It is planned to start first with a preliminary implementation in SixTrack to allow for a quick start of the  tracking and then go to the implementation in MAD-X.
There was a longer discussion on the details of the implementation. The formulas shown in the presentation require further checking and correction. It was decided to go for an implementation of rf-multipoles, similar to what has been done by Andrea Latina for PLACET. In any case, off-line discussions are planned and another presentation is foreseen for the next LCU meeting.


Overview of HiLumi Task 2.2 -> BH (slides)
BH reported about the HiLumi LHC task 2.2, on optics and lattice layout.
He showed names of collaborators, with significant contributions from outside CERN from several institutes.
He also showed a list of topics to be studied (see the slides). Some results, and in particular a basic optics layout should be ready by the end of the spring, as required for magnet layout studies. The task will be done in close collaboration with other tasks and working groups.


Overview of HiLumi Task 2.3 -> MG (slides)

MG reported on the HiLumi LHC task 2.3. on particle simulation studies. These studies are essential to determine the required magnetic field tolerances and to evaluate the dynamical aperture. The work is done in collaboration with several institutes outside CERN  including FNAL, INFN-Frascati, SLAC, STFC and the universities of Liverpool and Manchester. More institutes may join or contribute indirectly. For example BNL may provide opportunities for MD studies involving RHIC.

An important part of this task will be on optics programs and tracking simulation tools including MAD-X, SixTrack and PTC, on the definition of procedures e.g. the dynamic aperture protocol. The task will also deal with computing resources like LHC@home.

Another aim is to specify the non-linear correction systems for the new insertions and to study the optimum working point. It is planned to include the weak-strong part of beam-beam in the particle simulations, while the strong-strong simulations will be performed by another Task lead by WH. All general information will be available via the HiLumi web site and by using wikis. The necessary files and output storage will be on afs (as it is the case not for the nominal optic files and the upgrade optics solutions maintained so far by SF). CERN computing accounts are setup for all collaborators.
The task will be done in close collaboration with other tasks and working groups.
