Minutes of the LIS Section meeting held on 3^rd September 2007.

General information (G. Arduini)

During the consolidation work on sector 7-8 it has been observed that some of the RF fingers at the interconnects have buckled into the beam aperture. The reason is being investigated and the impact on the schedule is not known yet.

Scanning of drawings of systems of the PS Complex accelerators. S. Gilardoni noted that it would be important to scan the drawings of the PS magnets. C. Carli noted that in general it would be important to scan all the drawings which are presently stored in the form of microfilms. G. Arduini asked the people in the section to provide feedback to S. Baird who is collecting the information.

There is a central service for scanning documents with less than 50 pages. G. Arduini will circulate the information about that service.

The deadline for the request of technical and doctoral students is 10/9. Requests should be sent as soon as possible to Oliver.

A meeting to discuss the outcome of the SPS impedance measurements took place on Friday 31/08. The outcome is briefly summarized below:

the measurements of the detuning of the quadrupolar synchrotron frequency should be repeated in the range of bunch populations up to 1.2-1.3x10¹¹ p. The longitudinal emittance should be 0.2 eV.s. The measurement of the intensity should be cross-checked with the measurement in the PS.

The variation of the phase advance per cell as a function of intensity should be determined from the data collected during the transverse impedance measurements.

The threshold of the TMCI instability should be evaluated from the data taken in August to verify whether any change has occurred.

G. Arduini reminded that the dates for the visit of S. Cousineau at CERN should be fixed as soon as possible. Action: C. Carli.

G. Arduini reminded that ALL the MD requirements should go through E. Métral who will negotiate the MD time with the physics coordinator.

LEIR (C. Carli)

The mismatch measurement performed in the PS with the SEM wires seems to indicate a large mismatch in the horizontal plane. No measurement of the mismatch in the transfer line from LEIR to PS is possible because several wires do not provide any signal. The problem is being addressed: it seems that there is a cabling problem.

PS (S. Gilardoni)

The measurement of the initial conditions for the AD extraction without QKE58 will take place today. R. Brown is investigating the possibility of removing the wire scanner 75 during the run. G. Arduini noted that it is not yet clear whether this can be done as it would require to re-condition the extraction kicker. G. Arduini asked whether the power converters of the high energy correctors DHZ15 and 60 are going to be replaced with bi-polar power converters. S. Gilardoni replied that this will be the case for DHZ15 (MTE). He will verify that this is going to be the case for the DHZ60. G. Arduini asked whether a measurement of ambient radiation with is planned with the present configuration of the CT extraction with QKE16CT and with average intensities comparable to CNGS operation. S. Gilardoni replied that he is going to discuss this with M. Rettig.
