Presents: RA, HB, SF, MG, JBJ, JJ, AK, AL, RdM, FS,
SR
- Follow-up of actions from previous meetings
- Comparison between aperture models -> JJ (pdf
file)
- Detailed comparisons between aperture
models available in progress
- Possibility of generating various types
of output to fit user's needs
- Report from meetings:
- MEB -> SF, MG
- WGA -> JBJ
- Point postponed to next meeting
-
Overview of the Machine Protection Review -> RA, HB
(pdf file)
- Committee acknowledged the quality of the
work done at CERN
- Issues:
- Software interfaces
- Need of a spare beam dump?
- Aperture kicker
- Fast vacuum valves
- How to operate the collimation system?
- Follow-up:
- Injection process
- Kickers (tune and aperture)
- Damper
- News about the aperture kicker -> FS
- Activity put in stand-by after the review.
However, kicker is part of the tune kicker and cables and generators already
ordered. Stopping the development of this device will free only manpower
- Discussion will continue in the LHCOP,
which will then bring the conclusions to the LTC
- Points to be clarified/studied to support
the request following the rejection by the Review Committee
- Is pilot bunch at 7 TeV capable of inducing
damage?
- Are there alternative means to measure
dynamic aperture?
- Is it possible to reply to the
criticism/concern expressed by the Committee?
- Transfer function accuracy for
lattice correctors -> AL (pdf file)
- Accuracy of transfer
function at the level of % seems to be enough for correctors in the SSS
- Hysteresis might be
an important issue, in particular from an operational point of view
- Measurement results
from two MOs showed completely different values of the hysteresis
- Situation of the MQTL magnets -> MG
(pdf file)
- Serious concern for MQTL production rate
and performance (training)
- Proposal to install weak MQTLs in
appropriate locations will not fix the problem
- Sector test might suffer from MQTL
problems
- Actions: analyse other optical
configurations (IR3 detuned) report to LTC -> MG
- AOB
- A board for the new staff in the LOC
Section will take place next week
- A joint meeting with RLC Section was
proposed by W. Herr to present the more recent studies with D. Kaltchev. The
proposed date is Friday 13th (to be discussed with F. Ruggiero).
- Aperture optimisation of SSS058: a shift
together with a rotation will fully recover aperture. However, this will
spoil the field direction, which is not measured but deduced from the
results of the magnetic axis. It is decided to give priority to field
direction and apply only the shift but not the rotation. This guideline will
be applied also for future SSS featuring similar problems.
