Report from meetings
- General information -> MG
Welcome back for Roderik Bruce who will now be with us as CERN fellow working on collimation for experiments.
There is follow up on magnet calibration offsets found in the beta-beating measurements. Some of these appear to be due to hysteresis effects from in-proper pre-cycling of the magnets.
The support for computing on clusters is being reviewed. The current external BOINC support does not allow us to update SIXTRACK. Geneva or EPFL Lausanne universities are candidates to help with the external BOINC support. An alternative could be to run our CPU intensive simulations on the GRID.
LHeC meetings started at a frequency of one meeting every two weeks to prepare for a CDR by summer.
The conclusions of Chamonix 2010 were presented last week in a special open seminar at CERN. The LHC upgrade plans are changing. This will also affect the planning of the upgrade work in our group. Task forces were launched after Chamonix and should present first conclusions in about
four-six weeks.
- FZ -> LMC
FZ reported from the last LMC meeting. Details can be found in the minutes.
- LBS -> HB
The LBS meeting yesterday was mainly dealing with the follow up of the action items from the common LPC-LBS meeting in January. One of the items is on communication between experiments and the machine via DIP and another on LHC fill summary data. The most recent background simulation results can be found here.
- CWG -> AR
The collimation meeting yesterday was mainly dealing with collimation phase 2. For details look here.
Analysis of aperture measurements -> CA (slides)
CA presented an analysis of aperture measurements performed on the LHC in
December. No clear bottlenecks were found. Some points (in particular MQ.11R6) looked suspicious and should be re-measured.
It will be important to systematically record the actual beam emittance in these measurements
and verify whether there is any emittance blow-up during the measurement.
