Summary notes of the LCU meeting on 10/10/2011
Present: HB, SC, LD, OD, MG, BH, PH, JJ, YL, RM, MS, CY
Report from meetings
- SLM and general information -> MG
During the week starting on Monday 14 November, there will be many LHC
upgrade-related events (LHC-CC11,
Joint
USLARP and HiLumi kick-off meeting). The LCU meeting schedule for
that week will be cancelled.
JJ announces the p-Pb workshop to be held on
17
October.
Matlab license: it was mentioned at last BEMB. A cost estimate for porting
the current applications to other programs (e.g., Octave) should be compiled
for Oliver.
Django Manglunki has been appointed SPS light ion project leader.
Stephane Maury has been appointed ELENA project leader.
Ronny Billen as been appointed GL of BE-ASR.
New staff rules (for staff hired after 01/01/2012 and not being fellows
earlier). As far as the pension scheme is concerned:
Retirement age: 67 years
Maximum pension: 70%, attainable after 37 years and 10 months of service
Pension calculation: calculated on the average of the last three years’
salary position at the time of termination of membership.
- LHC status -> BH
The integrated luminosity of 5 fb-1 is at hand.
Some technical issues (vacuum leak, power cut).
25 ns tests very encouraging.
First study of high-b*
optics for ALICE -> PH (slides)
This is a preliminary study for a high-beta* option for Alice.
Currently, there is no official request for forward physics runs for Alice.
The optics is reviewed and a nice solution is proposed, with gradients in
tolerance. During the discussion it turns out that not all the phase advance
constraints were taken into account correctly: a revised version of the optics
will be studied.
AOB
Nothing to report.
