Minutes of the LII Section meeting held on 29th January 2007

Present: G. Arduini, J. Barranco, G. Bellodi, E. Benedetto, O. Berrig; R. Bruce, C. Carli, A. Franchi, F. Gerigk, S. Gilardoni; J. Jowett, M. Juchno, M. Martini, Y. Papaphilippou, G. Smirnov

General Information (G. Arduini) - slides

Status of the PS magnet model (M. Juchno) - slides

In the pictures the centre of the vacuum chamber correspond to x=0.

During the discussion the following points were raised:

D. Cornuet and/or T. Zickler should have the drawings of the figure of eight loop. Only old drawings exist for this piece of HW because they have not been renovated. Only the main coils and the pole face windings are bing renovated.

Is the B-H curve of the iron used in the construction of the magnets well known?

It was mentioned that the choice of the boundary and its distance from the magnet might affect the results and this could be differnt for ANSYS based on pure FEM method. and for ROXIE based on a the BEM-FEM method. It might be worth comparing the results from the two codes at the same distance from the magnet as well as verifying the sensitivity to the position of the boundaries.

A study of the sensitivity to the position of the coils might give an idea of the sensitivity to the details of the geometry of the conductors which is not necessarily well known.

Longitudinal Painting for a PSB H- Injection (C. Carli) - slides

On of the differences with respect to the present injection is the larger number of turns (almost one order of magnitude).

It is not evident that a very small transverse emittance from the linac is necessarily beneficial. The same applies for the momentum spread, small is not necessarily good.

Issue of the energy jitter. Need to quantify: amplitude of the jitter and characteristics: along the pulse, cycle-by cycle, is it reproducible?

The issue of the synchronization between the LINAC4 chopper and the PSB need to be assessed.

TT2-TT10 optics for the fixed-target beam  (O. Berrig) - slides

The Twiss MAD-X command does not give the Twiss correct Twiss parameters.

PTC seems to provide more reasonable results.

A comparison MAD8 (without couple option) - and PTC need to be done

It is not clear that PTC is a flexible solution. Is the matching working?

Action: O. Berrig to make a detailed comparison MAD8-PTC and verify the possibility of matching a line within PTC.

Next meeting
